Septic services in the Algoma District

Here’s what we can connect you with, and what each one actually involves.

Septic tank pump-outs

The bread and butter. Every tank needs pumping on a schedule โ€” typically every 2โ€“4 years for a full-time household, less often for a seasonal camp. A pump-out truck vacuums the tank, rinses the walls, and hauls the septage to a licensed receiving site. Typical Ontario range: $300โ€“600, more if the tank is hard to access or the operator has a long drive up a private road.

Tell us if any of these apply โ€” they change the job:

Septic inspections & reports

Common reasons: buying or selling a property, a bank or insurer asking, a building permit, or a house that’s been rented and you’re not sure how it was treated. Typical range: $150โ€“500 depending on how deep the inspection goes โ€” a basic tank-and-field look vs. a full report with flow testing.

A good inspector checks the tank baffles and tees, the effluent filter, liquid levels, and the condition of the leaching bed. For a property purchase, insist on a written report โ€” verbal “looks fine” isn’t worth much three years later.

Risers & lid replacement

If your tank is buried and every pump-out starts with a backhoe, adding risers (plastic extension tubes up to grade) pays for itself within a couple of pump-outs. Typical range: $200โ€“500 per riser including parts and installation. It also makes future inspections a 10-minute job instead of a dig.

Effluent filter cleaning

Most tanks installed in the last 20 years have an effluent filter at the outlet baffle. It protects the leaching bed from solids. It should be rinsed every pump-out, and more often on high-use systems. If yours doesn’t have one, adding one during the next pump-out is cheap protection for a bed that costs thousands.

Leaching bed repair & replacement

This is the big one. Signs a bed is failing: soggy ground or standing water over the bed in dry weather, sewage smells, drains slowing throughout the house, or sewage backing up. Typical ranges in Ontario: $5,000โ€“10,000 for partial repairs, $15,000โ€“35,000 for a full replacement โ€” and bed work requires a permit under Part 8 of the Ontario Building Code.

Honest note from us: not every slow-drain complaint means the bed is dead. Sometimes it’s a blocked outlet baffle, a saturated filter, or a water-usage problem. A proper inspection first can save you from a $20,000 replacement that wasn’t needed.

Emergency calls โ€” backups & smells

Sewage backing into the house is an emergency: stop using water, don’t run the washing machine or dishwasher, and call. We’ll connect you with the closest available operator โ€” in the Algoma District that means someone nearby, because a truck coming from two hours away doesn’t help anyone.

What we’re not

We’re a referral and dispatch service, not the contractor. The operator who shows up is licensed, local, and the one who actually sets the price and does the work. We make the connection, and we make sure you know the price before the work starts.
